Gran Canaria
If
you’re looking for a property with the best views around, Gran
Canaria is an ideal investment location. Endless sandy beaches,
dramatic mountains, deep ravines, sweeping sand dunes and lush
green vegetation combine to make Gran Canaria the jewel of the
Canary Islands.
In fact, Gran Canaria’s geography is so unusual that it has earned the nickname ‘The Small Continent’; a title that reflects the island’s extremely varied landscapes with European, African and even American vegetation. There is hardly anywhere else in the world where you can find such differing landscapes and climate zones in such close proximity to each other.
Gran Canaria is served by Las Palmas Airport, which has direct and frequent flights to Europe, Africa and America. It has all the attractions of a large city, with night clubs, international shows, an intense social life and an ample calendar of festive occasions and celebrations throughout the year.
Fuerteventura
Fuerteventura
has some of the most impressive beaches in the whole of Europe.
From the Golden sand dunes of Corralejo in the north, to the flat,
seemingly endless beaches in Jandia in the south, Fuerteventura
ideal for property investors who appreciate sun, sea and sand.
98 Km long and 30 Km at it’s widest Fuerteventura is the second largest of the Canary Islands, the least populated and the closest to the African coast with only 100 Km of ocean separating it from Morocco. Fuerteventura enjoys as much as 3,000 hours of sunshine every year and has a climate that is similar to Florida and Mexico, which share the same latitude.
Water sports are extremely popular in Fuerteventura and the island hosts the P.W.A world windsurfing speed and slalom event every year. In addition to watersports, you will find sheltered coves that are safe for swimming, stunning mountain ranges and beautiful whitewashed villages.
Next to surfing the other most popular activity is big game fishing. The waters surrounding the island are teaming with Blue and White Marlin, Tuna of all varieties, Wahoo and Skipjack.
Fuerteventura is a laid back lifestyle, with unspoilt beaches, shimmering turquoise seas and temperatures that never drop below 21OC degrees, its a great place to buy property.
Lanzarote
The
northernmost and easternmost of the Canary Islands, Lanzarote
is situated in the Atlantic Ocean, 115 kilometres off the coast
of Africa. Its dry, mild climate, year-round average temperature
of 22OC and stunning scenery make it a great location for people
looking to invest in a second property abroad.
UNESCO has designated Lanzarote as a Biosphere Reserve: a status that protects and conserves the island’s landscape and ecosystem while fostering economic and human development in ways that are culturally and ecologically sustainable.
Lanzarote is an island of all-white villages, roadside flowers and tough rules against advertising billboards. It has its own National Park with geysers, moon-like lava fields and numerous dormant volcanoes, while the coast benefits from long sandy beaches.
Lanzarote’s airport (Guacimeta), which lies between its capital Arrecife and Puerto del Carmen, has regular flights to international destinations. For exploring the islands there are several car ferry services from ports around Lanzarote, including a direct route to the mainland.
Tenerife
With an area of 2,053 Km2 Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands and one of the most popular with property investors. It enjoys excellent weather year round and has a huge variety of scenery and terrain with large, wooded mountains and spectacular volcanic terrain.
Tenerife
is home to Mount Teide; a dormant volcano in the middle of it
the island which, at 3,718 metres, is Spain’s highest mountain.
There are several excellent beaches, some with Tenerife’s famous
black sand and some with golden sand. Its capital is Santa Cruz
de Tenerife, a vibrant, modern city with 220,000 inhabitants.
Travelling to and around Tenerife is easy thanks to two airports, excellent roads, a dependable public transport infrastructure and low price petrol.
Tenerife is a great place for sports enthusiasts with superb sailing and a host of outdoor leisure activities. Golfers are particularly well served with several high quality golf courses sprinkled around the island, including the excellent Golf Costa Adeje.
La Palma
La Palma, known locally as ‘La Isla Bonita’ (beautiful island), is home to 80,000 inhabitants. Just 50 Km long and 25 Km wide at its widest point, it is dominated by the Caldera de Taburiente - the largest know erosion crater; almost 17 miles around the rim and more than 1,000 metres deep. It is an area for property investors who are more interested in scenery and nature than lazy days in the sun.
Unlike
other areas of the Canary Islands, La Palma’s weather can be very
variable with hard but brief rainstorms. This higher than normal
rainfall keeps the island’s vegetation lush and verdant and there
is even a small area of tropical rainforest in the Northeast.
The coastal landscape is largely characterised by steep cliffs of volcanic rock, small bays with black sand and an abundance of wild cacti and banana plantations. The main roads for circumnavigating and crossing the island are generally well maintained asphalt roads, although straight, flat stretches are few and far between.
La Palma has its own airport and is also served by an overnight ferry to Tenerife.

Shared Ownership
Rising prices have meant that people wanting to own a holiday home in Spain are finding it harder to raise the finance. Shared ownership could be the answer. Unlike timeshare, you actually hold Title Deeds and own a percentage of that property.... More »
